Finn and Sandy's
Sometimes God works in ways that we don't expect. Toward the beginning of the period where we felt God was calling us to do missions, we felt like He wanted us to go serve in Iran. However, political circumstances outside of our control at the time made that impossible. We ended up serving the Muslims in Indonesia (the most Muslim country in the world) instead. But God wasn't done. Today I'd like to share with you the story of how God used us to reach that very same place in Iran even though we weren't able to physically go there ourselves. My friend Ilik is one of the most incredible people I've ever met. He graduated from ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) in Indonesia and then got a Masters in Japan. After that, he acquired a PhD in Germany. Eventually, he even became one of the most highly respected leaders in his country and the president of ITB -- all this while being an ardent Christian in the area with the most Muslims on the planet. He taught us to love the Indonesian culture and also about what it means to be a true follower of Christ. Today I'd like to share a few stories of our time with Ilik and some of the incredible things he's accomplished over the course of his life. This is episode #1 in our series about some of our closest friends over the years. Duration: 30 minutes 24 seconds Picture of Finn and Ilik together in Indonesia available below.
Today I want to tell you the story of my good friend and mentor, Pastor Seino, who we met while working in Indonesia. At one point, someone in our ministry was taking advantage of people and profaning the name of Christ through what he was doing. This made me angry and I wanted to do something about it. Eventually, Pastor Seino took me aside and gave me some invaluable advice about how to handle the situation and that advice has always stuck with me. This story is also available in Indonesian. It took three and a half years for Sandy and I to get our Indonesian visas. When we got to Singapore, our mission leader was dumbfounded that we were the chosen candidates. He said that out of all the people who applied, we were the least qualified. While I was a little offended, Sandy found it encouraging and today I'd like to share why in a quick story I have for you all. This is yet another example of how God's ways aren't always our ways! It's not required, but we suggest that you watch the story called "How God Miraculously Grew Our Family" first before watching this one to get a little background. Duration: 3 minutes 37 seconds

My wife and I were working in Indonesia at the time and for political reasons, she needed to get a new passport from the US if we were going to go. Despite the fact that nothing happened in our timing, God worked a miracle and did the impossible. Duration: 12 minutes and 36 seconds More on this story below.
