Finn and Sandy's
My friend Ilik is one of the most incredible people I've ever met. He graduated from ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) in Indonesia and then got a Masters in Japan. After that, he acquired a PhD in Germany. Eventually, he even became one of the most highly respected leaders in his country and the president of ITB -- all this while being an ardent Christian in the area with the most Muslims on the planet. He taught us to love the Indonesian culture and also about what it means to be a true follower of Christ. Today I'd like to share a few stories of our time with Ilik and some of the incredible things he's accomplished over the course of his life. This is episode #1 in our series about some of our closest friends over the years. Duration: 30 minutes 24 seconds Picture of Finn and Ilik together in Indonesia available below.

During a time when Sandy and I were worn out and in desperate need of encouragement, God brought us some good friends who lived closer than we could've imagined (and unknown to us, they already had strong connections with my family!). This story is also available in Indonesian and Chinese. Duration: 8 minutes 15 seconds
It took three and a half years for Sandy and I to get our Indonesian visas. When we got to Singapore, our mission leader was dumbfounded that we were the chosen candidates. He said that out of all the people who applied, we were the least qualified. While I was a little offended, Sandy found it encouraging and today I'd like to share why in a quick story I have for you all. This is yet another example of how God's ways aren't always our ways! It's not required, but we suggest that you watch the story called "How God Miraculously Grew Our Family" first before watching this one to get a little background. Duration: 3 minutes 37 seconds
In 1990, a the Chinese government erected a monument to my grandfather who died there in a bombing during World War II and invited my aunt and uncle and all their family to come see it. My wife and I were working in Indonesia at the time and for political reasons, she needed to get a new passport from the US if we were going to go. Despite the fact that nothing happened in our timing, God worked a miracle and did the impossible. Duration: 12 minutes and 36 seconds More on this story below.
For this week's post, I'm extremely excited to share with you the story of how God took what seemed like a hopeless situation and, despite all odds, blessed us with two children: Davin and Denise. I hope it encourages you that God's plans are not our own, but in reality they are far, far better than anything we could ever imagine. In the face of impossibility, He will make a way if it is truly His will. Duration: 22 minutes and 11 seconds
This week I'd like to share with you the story of how I met my future bride at 7 years of age ...while living in Taiwan. I hope it serves as a lesson that if it's God's will that you get married, He can bring you a spouse in ways that you might not see coming! Just trust Him. Duration: 13 minutes and 49 seconds
